About Guatemala

Guatemala is a country in Central America. It is bordered by Mexico to the north and west, Honduras to the east and El Salvador to the southeast. The country’s population is around 16 million, with most of Guatemala’s people being of Maya descent. Guatemala has played an important role in regional affairs because it was once home to several great pre-Columbian cultures, including the Maya and the Zapotecs.

The country is famous for its ancient Mayan ruins and other historical sites that are scattered throughout the country. These include Tikal, one of the most important ancient cities in Mesoamerica. The capital city of Guatemala is also called Guatemala City.

Guatemala has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. However, there are two distinct seasons: wet and dry season. During the wet season (May through November), rain falls almost every day while during the dry season (December through April), rainfall is much less frequent but still possible each day except on rare occasions when it rains extremely heavily for hours at a time instead of just minutes like during most days during this time period (this can happen especially if there’s an approaching hurricane).
